10th ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SCHOLARSHIP OF TEACHING AND LEARNING IN
10th ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SCHOLARSHIP OF TEACHING AND LEARNING IN HIGHER EDUCATION
2- 4 October 2024, Central University of Technology, Bloemfontein, Free State, South Africa.
Conference Theme:
“A Decade of Embracing Theory and Practice in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning"
Background
Integrating theory and practice in education is not merely a pedagogical aspiration but a critical component of effective teaching and learning. Theoretical frameworks provide the necessary foundation for understanding educational phenomena, guiding the development of teaching strategies and instructional designs that are both innovative and evidence based. Conversely, practical applications of these theories in real-world classroom settings yield invaluable insights, enriching the theoretical constructs and fostering continuous improvement in educational practices. The connection between theory and practice is invaluable as it demonstrates the researchers’ ability to use evidence to clarify important ideas, support their conclusions and guide future research. The strength of this theory-practice connection contributes to the evidence of your development and critical thinking.
Over the past decade, the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) has fostered a vibrant community dedicated to advancing educational practices through rigorous research and innovative applications. This conference aims to highlight the symbiotic relationship between theory and practice, showcasing how research has informed and transformed teaching methodologies, curricula, and student outcomes. As we reflect on our achievements, we also seek to map a path forward, exploring new educational research and practice frontiers.
