Example of a Socio-Scientific Issue: Nuclear Energy

Purpose of this study, the aim is to prepare a lesson plan that will guide the teaching of socio-scientific issues and the acquisition of twenty-first century skills. For this purpose, a lesson plan lasting four lesson hours was designed and presented in detail. Three different activities were designed and implemented for the lesson plan. The first activity is the Nuclear Energy Panel Event to explain nuclear energy. The second activity is the 6 Thinking Hats Technique and Different Perspectives on Nuclear Energy Activity, which allows to address the issue of nuclear energy from every angle. The third activity is the Let's Create Dilemma Cards Activity with Canva, in which a nuclear energy poster was designed to help understand the positive and negative aspects of nuclear energy. Aspects that are liked, disliked and wanted to be changed in the implemented activities; It was determined by the activity evaluation form applied to the students. According to the findings obtained from the activity evaluation form, students generally expressed positive opinions about the activities implemented. It is thought that the designed and implemented lesson plan will be an exemplary socio-scientific lesson plan for teachers and teacher candidates.
