Abstract

The aim of this study is to develop an alternative model in the place of breathing model in which the representation of diaphragm muscle causes misconception on students and by using this model in teaching how diaphragm muscle contracts when we breathe accurately. Three models and two worksheets were developed in this study. Designed models and worksheets were tested with the participation of 25 sixth grade students at a middle school located in Nigde. Considering students’ responses to the questions asked in the classroom and to the worksheets; developed models and worksheets were determined as effective tools for students to learn the shape that the diaphragm muscle takes and to link respiratory system with circulatory system more comfortable.
