Abstract

This activity was prepared for the acquisition: “He/she shows sensitivity to non-discrimination by questioning the different types of discrimination.” featured in the theme “Democracy Culture” of the elementary education, 8th grades Citizenship and Democracy Education lesson in 2012-2013 school year. This activity aims to make the students participate in the lesson actively and ensure the permanent learning to occur with group work, through the use of cartoons accepted as visual teaching materials. The activities were organized so as to help the students’ keep their interest at the highest level for the topic. It was observed that thanks to the humorous elements of cartoons the activity applied was entertaining and informative, the interest level of the students’ increased and they showed sensitivity to non-discrimination.
